I will need all the help I can get because Prenolepis supposedly have trouble laying after hibernating. And in some places I hear that people say that Prenolepis are trash! Well, I don't believe them so let's prove the Prenolepis haters wrong!

I found one Preno 2 weeks ago. And no eggs so far . I also read that Preno queens behaves different in formicariums and they might end in war. But also read that formicariums with multi Preno queens grows healthier.

So far there's been no fighting and the queen like to be right next to eachother.

So far the Prennies I've found have been chill and friendly and perfectly willing to brood so long as they're actually fertile, but I'm in Canada with a lighter colour variant, maybe it has personality/bio differences as well as colouration. Maybe they will lay after estivation?

Just checked on my Preno and she finally lay some eggs . I change her from a plain glass tube to one with a dirt insert *month ago* and some how the cotton keeps the insert dirt moist. she seems to love it .

Thank you for the information! I’m having some trouble accomidating my prenolepis since in Tucson it’s already hit 116 degrees outside a few weeks ago so my whole house is pretty warm now.

update

I haven’t been able to update on any of my ants for a while because I’ve been in Michigan spending time with my family for a few weeks. But when I get home tonight I will definitely check on how all my ants are doing and update all my journals the best I can!

Think of it summer hibernation.

Well. It's a sad update for me as I'm declaring this journal to be discontinued for now. The Prenolepis Imparis when I got home were dead. They suffered the same fate as many more of my ants. Dehydration. I will try to start this journal again because I'm determined to keeping a colony and proving the world that Prenolepis aren't as bad as they seem!

Long vacations and ant-keeping don’t mix. Sorry.

I’d say they can go 2 weeks without care. If your gone for longer you can ask someone to help

Long vacations and ant-keeping don’t mix. Sorry.

I know that. But all of the people that were in Tucson that could've possibly cared for my ants were all on vacation so I couldn't do anything.

At least I can rest tonight knowing that I did everything I could.

Yeah, for long trips get help, or put the ants in diapause. Luckily I’m poor enough that long vacations are out of the question for me.
