Does anyone know of places around Southern California where there are Queen ants to be found?

Look in rural areas. Big city and suburban areas are most dominated by invasives.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Go to rural boring area don't go to cities or you will be disappointed and only find Argentines

There is a plethora of information available in regards to finding species in California on this forum, especially information regarding Southern California ants. What you could do is find certain species that interest you in Southern California, and then do searches on the forum in both the journals section and the Queen Ant Spotting and Mating chart to learn more about them, and where they are found. Good luck!
