Let's hope your nanitics arrive soon, and hope that the colony will be successful, my previous trap jaw colony had all their eggs eaten by springtails.

WHAT?! I thought springtails were good. My setup has no springtails anyway

Also I am adding another sp to this journal but it will still be focused on my simillimus. My neighbor gave me a rixosus queen yesterday. Hooray!!

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Springtails ARE good, the reason why they ate the eggs of my previous trap jaw colony is because there are a lot of springtails in the setup and there isn't enough food for them so they ate the ant's eggs. Btw, good luck with raising that rixosus queen, mine is very picky and keeps eating her eggs.

Thxs. What have u been successful with feeding her. Currently she has not eaten a baby mealworm I gave her and she has only eaten 1 termite. She did lay an egg tho so a guess that's a good sign

The most successful thing I fed her are baby roaches but sometimes she still rejects them, the same goes with crickets. It does seem like they can be stressed out very easily and are very willing to eat their own eggs.

I am so sad... The pupa, TURNED INTO A FRIGGIN MALE! ARGHHHHHH. I'm still keeping the queen and raising the next generation just to be sure tho. And the rixosus queen has 4 eggs.

Don't worry, trap jaw queens often do this for some reason even though they have been mated, most of the time the second generation will be workers.
