A few hours ago I was hiking with RG_Ants,I stumbled upon an unexpected find. It appears to be a formica queen but I am not too sure what the species is. The weather has recently warmed up from 40 degrees fahrenheit to about 65. There was still some melting snow on the ground. Your help will be much appreciated.

Yes, looks like Formica to me. Nice find!

Can anyone identify the species? I think it's subsericea but I could be wrong. Do I need better pictures?

You would probably need a microscope or at least some good macro shots to find out the species. May I ask why you jumped to F. subsericea?
