I just caught 3 if these and I'm pretty confident they're myrmecocystus but don't know the species. Any advice for founding is appreciated.
1. Caught off Ortega Highway near the San Juan Trail.
2. Caught 3/28/21 9pm
3. Scrub habitat, no water close by, scattered rocks
4. Length 10mm
5. Dark brown body, light brown legs velvet-like gaster
6. Long tooth on mandibles (see pic), long maxillary palp (pic), 12 segment antennae
7. Nothing distinctive although I think the workers are light brown/orange
8. I believe a small nest opening in sand with no distinct mound
9. Nuptial flight not witnessed but caught three that night all crawling on surface.
10. Pictures attached.
Thanks in advance!
BTW... Don't know why some pictures came in rotated...
