I've got a winter ant queen but right now i want a Tetramorium queen as well. I've heard they don't need that much care and can get quick and big population booms. furthermore they love honey so i think this is my type of ant seeing as i don't have fancy gears and things.

so when do they have their nuptial fights? and do they need big test tubes? also how many workers do they need before a the need of a outworld?

Throughout July is the best time to find them here, but I don’t know where you live. They are small so a smaller test nine for founding would be best, assuming you mean width and not length. You could probably wait until ~20 workers before giving them an outworld, but these are active ants.

My rule of thumb for giving ants an outworld is whenever it gets hard to feed them in the tube without escapees. This varies depending on species and even the personality of your individual colony. Faster or more energetic ants that bolt out of the tube whenever you open it would need an outworld sooner, but slower ones that take a while to react could likely stay in the tube until they start taking up too much room. I've found Tetras to be roughly in the middle. They're not particularly fast, on account of their relatively short legs, but there's usually at least a few workers waiting by the front of the tube or on the cotton plug.

All ant species need a lot of care to do well, especially explosively growing species like Tetramorium. Do your research and consider the cost. You don’t need any fancy gear beyond test tubes, good escape proof boxes, and fluon. Liquid feeders will also make your life a lot easier as a keeper.

Tetramorium immigrans have nuptials flights in june and early july. They fly in the masses so it should be easy to find a queen.

I recommend searching for Tetramorium in the mornings if you can find the time!

I find all my queens in the afternoon. All of them have had no wings and have laid eggs immediately, too.

On second thought more like 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
