Lasius niger is not present in New York. If you're looking for a native Lasius species, I'm sure there are people with L. americanus or L. neoniger in the area. There is also the exotic L. emarginatus in NYC which is quite an interesting Lasius species.
ok thx i switched to Tetramorium immigrans because i was told they are beginner friendly, common, and fast growing.Lasius niger is not present in New York. Depends on what species you are looking for. Some species prefer natural areas and some like urban areas.
