I have a new microscope:  an Amscope ST60.  I'm assembling it today and placing it on my desk in my office.  I'll be using it to identify insects and to take photos/video of ants and other insects and spiders.

If you have any experience with this microscope I would love to hear your thoughts on it.  Eventually I would like to a bigger swing arm on it so I can have a larger field of movement for it, but it will work well as equipped for now.

I also have an adapter that should allow me to use my iphone to capture clear, close, photos and videos that I can share with customers, post to my website, send to my entomologist, or post here.

I just discovered the head on my microscope spins!!   Does that mean I don't need to have flat laying formicaria, and that I can use more traditional tarheel formicaria and just spin the scope to look at them through the glass??  Oh my that makes me really excited!!

It seems like the microscope doesn't go down close enough to the desk surface to get good close photos of insects, so I may need to get or build some kind of plaform to use with it.

If anyone suspects I'm doing something wrong with it please enlighten me!  lol.

Ok I discovered I had installed a piece upside down and with that fixed, its in the right position in relation to the work surface :)

You only have to be 10% smarter than the equipment you are working with to operate it properly.   I'm definately not smarter than this microscope.

I don't think I like the eye pieces on the new scope (either that or I don't know how to use them), and I need an LED lamp for it....  I'm learning a lot about microscopes today.

You might need to post pictures for us to get a better idea as to what is going on. Yours seems to do things that mine doesn't, so I'm not sure how much help I will be with those questions. As for the eyepieces, you should be able to twist them to adjust the distance they are apart from each other, assuming that is the problem you have with them.
