Very nice pictures.
Amazing photos!
What is interesting is that my C. vicinus eggs are white. I have never noticed them being yellow.

Most of the eggs have turned into very large larvae!

My C. vicinus always lay yellow eggs. It's a common occurrence in the Camponotus genus, but I'm failing to recall why.
One of my Camponotus queen lays amber colored eggs -- almost orange. Another lays pure white ones. I've got no idea why either.

My C. modoc lays white eggs with yellow in the middle. Nice ants by the way!
So it looks like you went about 6 weeks from eggs laid to eclosing. Does that sound right?
Wonderful photos btw. I had a terrible time trying to photograph my ants in the talus and never got any decent shots. Well done!

Very nice photos.
I wonder how much light you need to get those shots inside the cave?

I was curious about the same thing bugfinder. They seemed to sit as eggs for quite some time. She laid a good 10 eggs and then for a few weeks they just sat there. Eventually I looked after being busy and they had turned to a pile of larvae with a cocoon. There was a couple new eggs but those seemed to have turned into larvae faster than the previous set of eggs. When I went to take these newer shots, most of the newer eggs had turned to small larvae which seemed way faster than the other eggs. Just a thought.
Some of my Camponotus have brood that has been the same size for 9 months.
Wow, why do you think that is Drew?
