While looking in their tube a did notice a major.
You can post pictures on here and Ill do what I can to identify it for you with some old records.
ok.
should i make a forum for identifying the ant?
Even if I'm still sure they are tysoni.
Yes, and they are most definitely not Ph. tysoni since tysoni are monogynous, meaning they only allow 1 queen per colony.
Some pheidole have more then 1 queen tho, and I couldn't find any other match for this ant might be, so I am pretty sure its either undocumented speices(very low chances for that) or it is pheidole tysoni and it is just a new case of them with more then 1 queen. I think that ome pheidole speices do have more then 1 queen.
If you can't get any better pics then the one you've posted here then an ID thread in the ID forum isn't going to do much. You need very detailed macro photos for reliable ID. What kind of camera are you using?
I think this pic is atleast better then the last...
you can kinda see the pupae in the pic, they have ALOT of them.
I will try to get a worker from them to take a better picture for the ID.
All you can tell from that picture is that there is a test tube with dirt in it. It is completely impossible to get an ID even down to Family with those pictures.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
That's just a test tube of dirt, nothing can be gleaned from that. I like your poster on the wall though, that's nice.
lol?
I will try to get a worker out of there.
You probably should practice taking photos of something small and detailed but flat first. Then move on to trying to get photos of test tubes. They are hard to get cameras to focus on at times because of the curved surfaces confusing the autofocus.

or I could just take a worker out.

A good quality one is quite expensive, however.Or you could just get a macro lens. Its a great investment and drastically improves image quality.
Yep. I have a 4k camera but it doesn't work with my computer, and I'm not sure if the pics will come out any better.
i mean a phone clip on macro lens. You can also upload the photos to the gallery on your phone and then do the rest on PC.Yep. I have a 4k camera but it doesn't work with my computer, and I'm not sure if the pics will come out any better.
I am convinced these aren't Pheidole tysoni. They are strictly monogynous, and as far as I'm aware they don't quite reach MA. Consider Pheidole bicarinata or (more likely) Solenopsis molesta.

They are way smaller then fire ants. The queens are barely bigger then my my pinky fingernail. The workers are 1/4 of the size of the queen.
And they produce a lot of eggs.
And they are a goldish color. But yeah. I've never seen any common pheidole in MA.
I put up a ID thread for this ant.

Solenopsis molesta are in the same genus as fire ants, but they aren't fire ants. Their common name is thief ant, and they are absolutely tiny and yellow/gold.
