I have never had Camponotus reject fruit flies, perhaps yours might like them?

Thanks for the advice.  I'll try that as soon as I can get my hands on some.  I saw some at petsmart today, but passed on them because they weren't flightless.  As soon as I can find some that don't fly I'll grab them and give them a try.

I tend to catch some small flies/gnats from my backyard, and freeze them. My own C.vicinus seems to enjoy it. Although, catching flies can be somewhat annoying. I use a net for it, so not sure how practical this option would be.

I used to use blue well plates and poured a diluted solution of detergent into it (yellow works better). It attracted some houseflies. These houseflies were not for feeding my ants, but for collecting. Not sure if household flies are recommended for feeding your ants.

Good Luck!

One of my camponotus colonies wouldn’t eat mealworms so I put a drop of honey near the cut on the mealworm and I assume the workers ate some of the the mealworm while drinking the honey but they have eaten mealworms since then. It may not work but I think it’s worth a try. But they go crazy for fruit flies which other people have said as well.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll definately try that.

I checked the ants today.  It looks like a worker has died, and it looks like second one may be dying.  She is near the dead one, and is moving her anteannae, but looks like maybe he can't move around on her own.

I removed the old food that was totally uneaten (I had them in a bottle cap from a beer I had) and put a new cricket and a spot of honey onto an actual feeder dish and provided it to them.
