1. Location of collection: Albion, NY
2. Date of collection: 5/28/2015
3. Habitat of collection: Nesting under a large piece of metal
4. Length (from head to gaster): 13mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Solid black
7. Anything else distinctive: - swarming and aggressive

Looks like a large formica sp. to me.

Sounds like Formica subsericea or similar.
