Hello!

My ordourous ants have larvae and eggs .. I am so tickled. But they aren't touching the nuts or meat that I gave them for protein.

I'm in a little bit of a bind on getting them some snacks... mostly it'll be a bit till I can get them the feeder insects or anything.

What are the chances that the little moths in my bird seed would be a good snack?

Is there anything I need to watch out for?
I know you don't wanna give them living insects but besides that..

Do they tend to have a food preference?

Those moths are probably fine. You could find crickets, termites, or earwigs in safe spots outside away from any spraying. Long term, just order some mealworms and crickets online and freeze them for later use. Thaw just what you need for each feeding. My experience with Tapinoma is that they wouldn’t eat anything but honey water.

Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

I tried to order mealworms and they said I shouldn't cause it's cold .. but if I'm going to freeze them anyway then that should be fine :-)

**update

So I found and killed one of the little moths and put it in.

They didn't seem too interested and eventually I shut the lights off and let them be.

Well, turns out they like to eat in the dark cause I just checked on it and it's gone. I don't know if they dragged it off somewhere but it is gone.

Might have a use for these annoying little moths.

Is this a parasite coming out of the moth?

I took it out just in case

It could either be it breathing, or a parasite. Never saw a parasite for a moth though.

Ants I am keeping:

none for now, planning on being more active this year

I took the moths head off so I don't think it was breathing.

I wasn't sure if it was a last ditch expulsion of eggs or something...
