You can go out to a local forest/park and crack open nuts, small sticks and twigs and you'll find plenty. No need to spend so much money on an ant so easily found. I would wait til it warms up a little in your area, though.

Totally not worth spending money. Have you tried blacklighting? I saw at least 500 queens at my light over the course of the summer last year, and I live in a very urban area myself.

If you want temnothorax colonies, go into some deep woods and crack open acorns. I get tons of colonies that way.

We can't unless you apply for (and get approved for) a PPQ526 permit.

he can't sell you it, as you live in a different state than him. unless you have a ppq permit, you will need to catch them yourself.

yes. please, everyone, finding these queens are hard for me as well, as they live more to the west. some people find them easily and some can't. that is way too much money to spend on a colony, though. imagine if it dies or is not mated.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

if you do manage to get a queen atleast raise her to larvae then dump her in vinegar,  and put her in the colony
