I love this journal, maybe you should try recreating a raid. Even though they may have no clue what that is some ants still like doing things they would do in the wild in captivity. I hope she does well.

We don’t talk about that

I've been planning to simulate raids with just brood for this year and maybe do it with some enemy workers when they have more and larger bios.

They’re doing amazing, plenty of bios and the queen is laying again.

I think Formica is the quintessential ant - aggressive, fast and beautiful. Nice journal. So cool.

Well they’re doing fine, nothing to really update on but I fed them some fruit flies.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

So I broke open a log yesterday and there was some C. pennsylvanicus in it so I decided to take some pupae and give them to my pergandei but I didn’t expect them to actually accept them and so far none have been ate or killed.

I'm sorry to say this colony has died, I don't know what happened but they died while I was in Nebraska for a week.

NEW RECORD! 7 posts!

Very sad to hear they died though, parasitic Formica seem awesome.
