I’m looking for a guide to for atta texana. Also if y’all don’t mind I want to know locations of atta texana nuptial flights so I don’t have to buy queens and colonies all the time. Btw I live in Texas.

I strongly doubt there will be anymore atta flights this year.

I also have been looking for Atta texana! I have tried very hard to find them in Austin (where I live) for the past 3 years, and have never found a dealate during May. If anyone finds this message I would be very interested in adopting a colony!

I used to have tons of colonies of these on the farm I grew up in. I was in a small town called La Vernia but it looks like the highest concentrations are in Austin. San Antonio has some too though. Probably the easiest thing to do to get these is setting up a battery powered UV light trap out in the country during nuptial flights. I wan to try to get some in 2021 too.

Atta texana flights can range from February to May, typically on extremely hot and humid days. I can't really help with locations, but I can definitely help with Atta care. You can also check out my Atta mexicana journal for a quick overview of how I care for the genus.

Take a look on Antweb.org, under Texas and Atta Texana, and you will see locations they have been collected at. This will help you find a general area that should have them, although it is never an exhaustive list. I know of a couple places that I've seen A. Texana colonies that do not have markers anywhere near them.
