I've got big news in which I'm super happy about.  I have made an order from THA for a new labyrinth, and a colony of pogonomyrmex occidentalis!  I got a colony of 20+ workers, and I am either going to let them grow in a mini-hearth for a bit, or just put them directly in the labyrinth.  This is the biggest formicarium I have had yet, and I really like this species, both for behavior and looks.  Expect a new journal coming soon, with pics and more information!  Thank you everyone for giving your advice on formicariums.  I appreciate it!

I think you may have misunderstood... Generally, when something is 'tanking', it means it's doing really poorly. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics of your new colony!

Huh. I know what tanking means, so I don't even know what I thought that had said. I guess somehow I interpreted that as being good? I was probably reading to fast. My bad. I hope the colony does better ANTdrew!

It’s all good. I think I’m going to give up on them. I’m pretty maxed out with big colonies already.

I'm hoping to get a colony of 20 to 40 workers+queen and with a Mini hearth or a fallen fortress

Update: They have shipped today!  It has been a bit over a week now, but I think Mack waited because he wanted to avoid DOA's.  It has been pretty cold here.  Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated!  :D

Alright, I've got an update.  It's not a great update unfortunately.  The Pogonomyrmex have been shipping for a while now, a week of today.  I got them Priority Shipping, which is supposed to be 1-3 days.  It's been at this facility in Denver for 4 days now, which totals it to a week now.  I finally called USPS because I was getting anxious, and after trying a few numbers, finally found one where an actual human picked up.  I told her about my situation and she informed me that my package was sent to an overflow hub and was just sitting there with loads of other packages.  Due to temperature fluctuations, as well as no food and no one to check on them, I'm pretty worried about DOA's.  At this point, I doubt it will get here before Christmas so I am really bummed.  Oh well, maybe someday...

That sucks, man! Sorry. Ants are tough as heck, though, so don’t lose hope. I’m sure they have seeds in their tube to survive off.

Mine took around 2-3 weeks to get to my place. They were fine and had no deaths and still a couple seeds.
We don’t talk about that
