I apologize in advance for posting a New York Times article that’s behind a paywall but it seems perfectly aligned with our interests and offers participation! Hopefully you’ve not yet reached your monthly limit on free NYT articles. The article touches on a national citizen scientist opportunity to be part of an ongoing bee census. If you can’t get to the article, you can find out about the project here:

or by an email to

I got an automatic response back. They have so much interest that there is a backlog in responding to emails. That's a good problem to have. Good thing they have at least four months before any work can be done.

I also just posted a query and am waiting for a response. With our ants and our bees we may really have a busy spring! :yahoo:

This is really cool, esp. that noobs like me don't have to identify the bug.

Honestly I had walked around thinking carpenter bees were bumblebees until fairly recently.

We’ve still got a foot of snow on the ground so this might be a bit premature but, has anyone gotten anything else from the survey group?

I have not. More snow for us on the way, too.
