for adult colonies of Hypoponera/Ponera, what would you use as a formicarium? (Other than a natural setup with dirt)

Is it possible to keep adult colonies in a setup without dirt (for visibility) and have them still grow and thrive?

I've never had problems with mold unless you keep the container near airtight and very humid. A similar material like hydrostone or grout works just as well though, plaster is just the easiest to get and work with.
