honestly i wouldn't do candy canes or any human candy. it *might* be safe, but i wouldn't take the risk. human candy could have things that are harmful to ants. about the oranges, idk

Oranges (and citrus fruits in general) arent well recieved by ants in my experience, and pouring the juice into a nest of a nomadic tramp species can even cause a nest evacuation. Candy canes on the other hand may work if you have a species that eats literally anything like solenopsis xyloni or tetramorium bicarinatum.

Ants will definitely eat oranges, in fact Acromyrmex may actually like oranges. If you saw a previous post in my Atta journal, they ate them no problem. Other ants will also have a taste for fresh fruit, specifically apples and oranges. As for candy canes, I'd be less certain as usually solid sugars are less appreciated than liquid sugars. Fruits are mainly accepted just for their juice and not really the fruit itself, where the ants will drink the juices from the fruit. Certain, less picky ants like Solenopsis would be more likely to eat hard candy, but for that you'd just have to experiment and hope it doesn't get messy.

Oh, so candy is safe for the ants? the more you know 

so theoretically, the liquid candy spray stuff would work as a sugar source?

I'd try not to feed my ants candy or other human foods. But oranges or other fruits could work, just make sure to rid them of pesticides.

I might try making a blended candy liquid sugar thingy (that is safe for ants) and post a recipe on it. Should i do that?

stick with natural is my thing. i feel it is better for the ants. honey or sugar water. just my opinion though.
