Cool. Price should be really cheap. Going to start testing today.

Do I need to test a colony inside or will an infertile queen be good enough?

A colony. She needs to at least thrive or do good it in and get workers.

I don't have any founding queens so I'll just make do with a small Brachymyrmex colony.

Should I have the outworld on the side so it makes a box shape or in front so it's a long rectangle?

The outworld is made from the same container

Long rectangle would be more efficient if you are putting them on heating cables.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

So I had hoped that the water tower being right against the edge would create a good seal but apparently water is still seeping into the hydrostone where the refill hole is. It may only do this at a certain water level but anyone have ideas on how to fix it? The obvious one is some sort of tube but it would have to be tiny.

Yeah. Coffee straws are good or ink tube for pens. Hot glue the straw/tube or the hole and shove it in the hydration hole. You can make it magnetic so you can change it to long rectangular or to square, but it will make extra on the cost of it. Btw I meant to vote square but accidentally voted long rectangular so don't count 1 vote on that.

It's coming along nicely. I could use some advice on how to finish it though. I was going to connect it with a small piece of tubing but I'm afraid if the tubing is too short it'll be impossible to put it back if it ever popped out. The way to fix this is to have a longer tube but that kind of ruins the nano part of it. If you got any ideas I'd love to hear what they are. I could just permanently glue both together, drill a hole, and skip the tubing but I'd rather not make it permanent.

Here it is as of now.

So far I have only 1 vote for the square way? If you voted for the long way I'm curious why. Also if someone could help me with what I posted above that would be awesome.
