I’m planning on purchasing a colony of m mexicanus, what would be an ideal formicarium for them? I’m thinking a mini hearth?

also, how often do you feed these?

I have not kept them myself but seen a ton of people house them in Mini Hearths.

Mini hearthis the way to go but you can look for cocdeshijie's cool DIY cup formicarium. Heres and image of my colony.

Feeding pure honey is not the best idea since it's viscous and sticky, which can trap ants a lot easier than sugar water.

Nests that allow the repletes to hang are the best types for Myrmecocystus sp.

I'd reccomend a Mini Hearth, my M. testaceus are doing good in it.

My Ants:
(x1) Campontous semitstaceus ~20 workers, 1 Queen
(x1) Camponotus vicinus ~10 workers, 1 Queen (all black variety)
(x1) Tetramorium immigrans ~100 workers, 1 Queen
(x1) Myrmercocystus mexicanus -1 Queen
(x2) Mymercocystus mimcus -1 Queen
(x1) Mymercocystus testaceus ~45 workers, 1 Queen

I started mine in a THA Hearth, then to a Fortress, then to a Nucleus, and I just ordered a Pioneer XL for their final move.

Yep this is the path I'm taking it as well. I would avoid sand formicarium.
