Hey All,

 

This board is pretty vast so apologies if this has been asked and answered.  I've had a camponotus sansabeanus queen for about a month and a half who has not laid eggs and is always unsettled digging her way through the cotton plug.  She was a wanderer in Pacifica California, which is odd.  Is it likely that she was never inseminated?  Any suggestions?

I would wait a bit longer but long answer is I'd wait and if she dies then your answer would be that she was not fertile.

Seems like an infertile queen. Most camponotus do this but they usually settle down after about a week.

basically every camponotus will do this. for me, it is a few days until they get eggs for me. if it has been happening for over a month, the queen is probably unmated. 

maybe try giving her some sugars and protein. that is your best bet if she might still be mated.

What’s weird is that I had a mated queen with one workers and that worker died and she still had cocoons and eggs but she kept doing this.
