New Antkeeper in Texas! Got my first Queen!

Hi hi! I'm Jade, or Casiah or Cassie or whatever. Usually Jade. Last week, or week before last depending on when you're reading this (the week before Labor Day) I noticed an ant queen just walking across my desk at work and I trapped her in an empty water bottle, plugging it up with toilet paper. Moved her into a test tube and left her secreted away in a drawer for a week. Anyway, last Friday I noticed that she had some small eggs. So, I guess I keep ants now.

I'm gonna start a journal, looking forward to seeing how this goes!

Welcome! That queen definitely looks like a member of the Dolichoderinae subfamily, very possibly Forelius. The other alternative would be the genus Dorymyrmex.

Ants I have: Tapinoma sessile(2 queen colony). RED MORPH Camponotus neacticus(now has pupae!), Tetramorium immigrans (x3), Aphaenogaster sp, Temnothorax sp, Brachymyrmex sp.   possibly infertile   :(,  Ponera pennsylvanica, and Pheidole morrisi!  :yahoo: 

 

Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen

                    

Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii

That's awesome! I caught a queen (or at least I think it was a queen) but she died...  now I'm searching all over again. Have you kept ants before?
