So, I was wondering that if there are two states in the Continental U.S that have a single ant species that is legal to own in both, could this ant be exported and inported between the states legally? A god example would be Acromyrmex versicolor. It can be found in Az and Ca and is legal in both so could they be shipped in between those to states? Thanks.

No, its still illegal.

Yep.  The only deregulated species is pogonomyrmex occidentalis.

They said they were working on prenolepis imparis and that it was on the top of there list for next species.

I wish that would happen too!  I would totally buy, as prenolepis are one of my favorites...

i hope they let this happen. we have them more commonly around here, so i could ship them.

I want atta and other leaf cutters to be allowed to be imported here. but that will probably take years. :(

that's weird doesnt the fungus need lots of heat?

what i was trying to say was that people say a species lives places, yet it does not, and is therefore imported illegally, and spreads. imagine that happening.

i get your example. i am just saying if we make it legal, idiots who are not on this forum will lie and say species are native to places they are not, and spread ants in places they should not be.

Interesting! Where did you see this? I would love for them to deregulate P. imparis. Maybe the govt. is finally starting to trust us lol.

It's perfectly reasonable. Such laws are in place in case a foreign population escapes, just like with exotic species. There can be large differences among populations of the same species, most notably disease resistance. Then there's the issues of species complexes. Multiple different species classed under one name, as no one has taken the time to differentiate them yet.
