I made a post about this queen a while back, and it was hard to ID her. She got workers today, so I figured it might be easier now.
Caught around 3 pm, dug up a founding chamber
Desert-like habitat
~4 mm in length
Grayish-black
Elongated gaster
The largest founding pile of brood I’ve ever seen

Ants I have:
1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers
1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers
1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers
1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Insanus complex. G.C. Snelling may be able to help but the species included under insanus arent fully described yet.

How deep did you have to dig?
Where did you get the impression he dug them up?

also i my opinion and from videos these are fun to keep after like 20 workers because they are always in the outworld and grow fast and from what i've seen is that they don't do good in a mini hearth so a sandy digging set up is a great thing to put them in.
