although some of you may think this is normal, i am really excited about this, as lasius claviger are hard to find around here! here are some pics! please tell me any advice as to how to catch and keep them!

I'm definitely catching at least 10 queens to start off with, but i can only catch claviger and umbratus workers.

The alates look like a different species altogether.

yes they do. after releasing tons of males, it appears the colony has called off the flights for today. me and AntsDakota will resume ant searching tomorrow.

their queens also have huge mandibles.


me and antsdakota think that they will fly today, as it is warmer, and there is no wind like yesterday.

if we catch enough queens, me and antsdakota plan to do some experimenting about which host workers are best for this parasitic lasius.

there are difinently queens in the nest, and more males, but they seem a little subdued. but this might be because i am checking earlier than yesterday. i will update you later.

According to Ants4fun they already did have some flights.

 

the colony outside of my yard(the one with queens and males) always seem to fly really late. maybe these are in a different area than the ones he saw, so they fly at different times.
