Springtails:

 

Entomobrya unostrigata

Entomobrya atrocincta

Seira sp. 13

Sinella curviseta

Neanura muscorum

Onychiuridae sp.

Purple Entomobrya sp.

Arrhopalitidae sp.

Morulina sp.

 

Past:

Ptenothrix beta

Entomobrya nivalis

Tomocerus sp.

Assorted unidentified Dicyrtomidae sp.

Assorted unidentified entomobryomorpha sp.

New Onychiuridae(might be the genus Onychiurus)springtail found under half submerged rocks by a pond. Not sure if these will need a special marshy setup, so I'm just keeping them in a box of liverwort from the same spot for now instead of my mixed culture.

I collected one of the huge black springtails I mentioned earlier. It has lighter bands, long antennae, and a shiny look to it. I only gathered one, unfortunately.

These look like little aliens......

 

but they look really cool next to those exotic green plants.

Those are liverworts, I find them in muddy habitats along creeks.

Any photos of globular springtails? And how do you tell them apart from mites at first glance?

Any photos of globular springtails? And how do you tell them apart from mites at first glance?

Elbowed antennae, large compound eyes, 2 body segments, jump, leggier than most mites.

Question-

I used to keep a fire skink, and his water dish would always be covered with a layer of these small white springtails. I usually dumped them out, but they always came back. Any ideas why?

what species are these and where can i find them they are so cute

 

Sinella curviseta are the white ones, commonly sold online. Greys are Entomobrya unostrigata, very common in urban environments along sidewalks and under flat debris. Blues are Lepidocyrtus, found on rotting wood and fungi.

Found some interesting globulars today, which I suspect to be in the family arrhopalitidae.

I collected a ton more arrhopalitidae, hopefully these will be the first globs I culture successfully.

Also found a few other globs, which are probably all various life stages of the usual dicyrtomidae.

Found some interesting dark blue hypogastrurids today, they're big for their group.
