Also curious as to how to interchange them.
Came across some interesting unboxing videos, thought I'd share them here. Not sure if the poster is a member here, but let me know if you are!
Part 1:
Part 2:
There were a few inaccurate claims made in the second video (identification of components). I addressed everything in the comments on YouTube

You know, that kid has a life memory now of something he had when he was young that made the hobby special for him. Way to go, Dr. T.
Only ONE of the Small size remains, as of this edit!

With Ant Season coming in full swing, I'm closing out all existing inventory for the current GroTube / GlassBox Arena formicarium!
There has NEVER been a better time to buy a GroTube, since I've gained so much experience in making these compared to when they were first released over 9 months ago.
Inventory, especially in the smaller sizes, WILL NOT LAST. Once it's gone, it's gone! If you're looking for a good deal on the most beautiful formicarium ever made, this is it. Period.
REMEMBER, all orders of a GroTube/GlassBox Combo also receive a 4-pack of our GUZZLER Liquid Feeders, with NEW glass tubes and organizer case, SUNBURST Ant Nectar, and a FLUON marker—a combined $47 VALUE on their own!
Visit http://grotube.byformica.com to get yours today, before they're all gone!
For anyone who purchased recently, sorry—I can't honor a price match on this sale, because it is a Closeout/Discontinued model; however, I may issue an Amazon coupon or other store-credit equivalent on request.

My Formica are outgrowing the XL. Suggestions?
My Formica are outgrowing the XL. Suggestions?
I'd love to see a photo!
This may not be a very popular opinion, but I believe more antkeepers should adopt the option of culling colony workers when a colony starts to outgrow a formicarium, as opposed to having the goal of making the colony as large as possible. Dried Formica workers would likely make an attractive food for harvester ants.
As the number of workers grows, so does the communal stomach (macro colony-level nutrition). Not simply a matter of space, large colonies need increasing amounts of, and more diverse food options, more stable environmental conditions, and perfectly-planned escape prevention. It pains me to see antkeepers make or purchase a gargantuan formicarium, only to have it sit empty because their flagship colony didn't adjust well to the habitat.
There is simply no evidence, as far as I can tell, that lightly culling workers has the potential to hurt a colony in any way, and it avoids the stress and expense of moving a colony from a proven habitat, to one that is unknown.
