You really don't need to buy them unless you live in the middle of the woods. They are everywhere and have massive nuptial flights throughout the year. I've caught 50+ queens in a single day.

You must list your location in your profile when seeking to sell or buy ants.

Steps to find fire ant queen:

Step 1) Go to a hotel during the middle of the afternoon, after a recent rain, when it is hot and muggy.

Step 2) Open your eyeballs.

Step 3) Look down at the curb in the parking lot.

Success!

You found ant!

I wouldn’t recommend this species, especially if you’re just starting out with ants. They grow so fast that soon they can become unmanagable. It is not easy caring for and containing a massive ant colony, not to mention one with painful stings.

Yeah. Wouldn’t something like Pheidole sp., Pogonomyrmex badius, or Camponotus floridanus be more preferable?

If you prove your residence on pickup, I’d be happy to sell you a Solenopsis invicta queen (with workers (nanitics + second generation), eggs, and brood) for $8. You would need to be willing to pick it up at the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta. Though I really don’t recommend that you keep this species, they’re a real pain over the long term. Literally and figuratively!
