So one of my Tetremorium caispitum test tube colonies(8 nanitics) won't eat anything but cracked open dandelion seeds. I have tried Honey, Meal worm, baby jumping spider, fish food, tomato, and dandelion seeds. The only thing that they ate was the dandelion seeds, what should I do? :ehh:  :ehh: :ehh:

You could try insects like Fruit Flies, Mealworms, and Crickets.

As long as they are eating, it should be fine for a little while. So you have time to find alternatives.

Are you sure it's tetra and not Pogonomyrmex? Anyway Tetramorium caespitum is european species.

Pogomyrmex in Colorado? In an area where it snows too? I doubt it, unless he bought it from somebody else. I also I agree that it is not caespitum.

Pogonomyrmex is in Colorado. Their range extends all the way up to Canada so they can probably deal with snow.

You should make a ID Request. I highly doubt its T. caespitum, I think its immigrans honestly.

Not really anything different, they are closely related species.

I don't know, you should make a ID Request. Your colony may just have a issue.

Make sure they are warm enough. I'd shoot for at least 80-85 degrees for Tetramorium. Offer a variety of insects, and they will eat what they need. A colony of eight will feed very little at first, maybe sending out one or two workers only. Be patient.

Ants are not dumb, as i said on another post today. If they are hungry, they will eat.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8
