I'm a little worried about cooking my aunts I'm planning to have my heat pad over my settup which is about 6 inches above my formicarium it also has the stoppers so that it can release extra heat if needed just concerned if I need a thermo stat for my ants?

Don’t cook your aunts. That wouldn’t be good. Just have the heating element on a small part of your aquarium to create a heat gradient, and they’ll be fine.I'm a little worried about cooking my aunts I'm planning to have my heat pad over my settup which is about 6 inches above my formicarium it also has the stoppers so that it can release extra heat if needed just concerned if I need a thermo stat for my ants?
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

Most antkeepers prefer heat cables over heat pads; they're generally better at getting a safe amount of heat to a lot of ants. You do not need a temperature controller, although I keep a small digital thermometer on the shelf with my ants so I know to turn off the heating cable on super hot days (90+ degrees). The smallest Zoo Med heating cable (11.5 ft, half of which is heated) is probably your best option.
