They are quite common where I live even the rare ones I could catch no problem but they usually don’t swarm and you will only find 2 or 3 in one year because they stay near the nest they came from.

if only i could trade you some lasius. we have so many...

if I could trade you some tetremorium for lasius.........

sorry. we have way to many tetramorium. i would take crematogaster...

Which one? What were you trying to do? Tetras are not very easy to kill.

Mine died because I left for a week, but that's about the only way to accidently kill a captive colony easily.

You might have more luck hunting springtails in a compost bin lid.

I must say, I am curious because it seems like every colony you aquire dies within a few weeks...  What are you feeding them, and what are they living in?

that is a good question. try to clean your test tubes out thoroughly with vinegar and baking soda, and to give your ants a liquid feeder with water for them to drink. many of my ants died in my early ant keeping years because of no access to fresh water.

This is how I was for the last couple years, but this year I improved. Part of it is that I am pretty much unable to hydrate my mini hearth because I have no syringe (I asked for one but Mack gave me one with no needle?!)

Yeah, that is DEFINETLY not right...  Was it in the box still?  It may have gotten mislodged from the reservoir and is in the box somewhere.  If not, I would email Mack at tarheelants@gmail.com (I think, not totally sure) and he will get back to you soon.  He has had great customer service, at least for me.  I'd let him know, and he will (maybe) send you one, or you can buy one for $5 usd.  Definitely get one before you put ants in though.  It wouldn't really work without that key hydration tank.
