If you were an ant, what species would you want to be? I know I’d love to experience their lives on their scale (kinda like that scene from Ant-Man where he goes into a nest and gets attacked), but I think it would be more fun to do it as an actual worker ant. Personally, I’d want to be a M. mexicanus replete, because then I could just lay around and get fat.

If there was already a thread like this I’m not aware of it, but sorry if there is.

Ants I have:

1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers

1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers

1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers

1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Honestly, I would be some chilling Camponotus sp. worker being cared for by a responsible ant keeper in some random colony. Camponotus = laze around all day without really doing anything

This is a tough one. I think I’d be a fungus grower. To be honest, though, I’d rather be a termite.

I'd want to be a lasius claviger queen, so i can just die...

In all seriousness I'd actually want to be a polyergus worker, i could just sit in the nest all day doing nothing and then have a fun time pillaging some innocent colony with the boys.

I'd be a male alate. Laze around all day getting tended by workers, and then go out one day to hit it and quit it. All fun, no responsibility. Sounds like the life for me!

If I were an ant, I would love to be a leafcutter ant (Atta spp.) because of their incredible strength and teamwork in building elaborate underground colonies and cutting and transporting large leaf fragments. It would be fascinating to be part of such a complex social system and contribute to the survival and growth of the colony. So If you want to do comparison on Ant vs Termite, Read this Article

Probably a Crematogaster worker, I'd get to raid wasp nests; sounds fun.

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?

There are so many fascinating ants right were you live!

I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that are not found in your area.

For me probably army ant. They dominate the forest floor. We would get to raid and plunder ants, termites, and wasps alike.
