I found this Nylanderia sp. queen wandering around under the bright florescent lights of a gas station in Indio, California, on September 13th 2013.

About two days later she started laying eggs.
 
On 10-10-2013 she had her first workers eclose, and that was when I realized she was Nylanderia.

Update 15-29-2013

 

This colony grew to about 20 workers, and then slowly they started dying off until there were no workers left. Finally, a few days ago, the lone queen died too.

Once she gets workers. Them two are my sixth and seventh of the species, the others died- I have had bad luck with this species.

This year I had problems keeping Prenolepis imparis, for some reason they all died.

Update 11-15-2014
 
I was given another colony of Nylanderia by Greg. The queen was found at the beginning of September. There's a good chance these are the same species I had before, either N. vividula, or N. magnella. Since I don't see anything that looks like dense pubescence on the scapes, or a square shaped head, and the queen of this new colony is only 4mm (the same as N. vividula), I'm pretty sure they're N. vividula.

The shiny dorsum of the worker head says N. vividula to me, too. 
 

Keep us posted on how they do. I have found Nylanderia in general quite sensitive to desiccation, so take special care to avoid that.

Update 12-13-2014

 

Their test tube got a bit nasty and started growing mold, so I forcefully moved them into a fresh one, eggs and all. :) They are up to nine workers now, and still have a nice little pile of brood.

Yay! Glad they are doing well. I had a bit of a mold problem in their tube before I gave them to you, but I swabbed it away.
