I was just wondering how do you count your colony's birthdays? Is it by when you catch the queen or is it by when the queen's nanitics arrive?

I would probably say when the queen lays her first eggs. That's how I would at least.

I use the day I catch the queen as the founding day. Not all survive, not all that survive are fertile or lay eggs. I don’t check my founding colonies daily so I don’t unnecessarily disturb the queens. Without daily checks you can more easily identify the day you caught the queen that the day the first nanitics eclose.

I also count the day I caught the queen.
