Found a dealate queen in August, even though most fly in May. She has an injured antenna. She is slightly fat, unlike the skinny alate/unmated queens. Is that normal? I know queens get kicked out in July but this queen doesn't look like a typical unmated.

She’s most likely a nest reject.

It's possible, but how would a nest reject look like a mated queen? This is so strange.

I saw near-physogastric Lasius americanus alates with wings in their nest. If I didn't know better, I would say they were mated, but they were most likely just well-fed.

This didn't have wings. But that is bizzare.

You got nothing to lose putting her in a test tube. I just wouldn’t get your hopes up too much. I’ve found dealate rejects before.

Yep, got a ton of camponotous anyway. Put her in a tube.
