Forgot to say, I've heard umbratus will hibernate alone if they haven't infiltrated a colony, so you can always pick up the search in the spring. The first one I found stalking a wild Lasius niger colony.

Its my first year, and all I found queen wise was Lasius Niger, lots of those and a potential Formica Fusca.

I have some other ants closeby but sadly no alates and its pretty much miserable weather by me right now haha. I am down Glasgow side and its a weird band where there is less species about, go north there is more and go south there is more.

One of the potential spots has what I am sure is Myrmica, but the only day I seen male alates they went back into the nest after a short while.

My first Lasius Niger Nanitics have started to show up as well which is awesome:)

Yeah I will need to have a look springtime and see if I manage to get lucky then!
