Pretty sure I just caught a ponera queen on my blacklight. It still has its wings so I was wondering if they mate in the air or on the ground. Since it's probably not mated should I let it go and watch to see if it mates. Also what do the males look like?

19 x Pogonomyrmex subnitidus (Seed-harvester ant) colonies + 3 x Pogonomyrmex (ID uncertain) colonies

16 x Linepithema humile (Argentine ant) colonies.

1 x Unknown Formicidae colony.

1 x Tapinoma sessile (Odorous house ant) colony.

1 x Camponotus fragilis (Carpenter/wood ant) colony + 1 x Camponotus sansabeanus (Carpenter/wood ant) colony.

Not sure. Going to maybe try but I can't tell if I caught males or wasps. I need a good non-microscope pic of a male to tell if I caught any.

Could you get a pic from the side? The wings obscure the look of the body. But I think that's a Ponera male, not positive though.

That actually looks more like a Lasius  male to me.

Ponera is more black, as you can see in the picture AntsDakota posted

The first male looks a bit like Nylanderia male, its still possible the queen is mated. Never hurts to try.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
