1. 60 miles north of NYC:

2. Date of collection: 8/12.2020
3. Habitat of collection: populating the top of a stone wall
4. Length (from head to gaster): 6-7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Reddish brown with dark (black? abdomen
6. Distinguishing characteristics:
7. Distinguishing behavior: move quite fast

We've lived in our house for over 25-years but never saw this kind of ant. They suddenly took over the top of a stone wall in our garden and I don't know if they're a pest that will require remedial measures or to just leave them alone. Thanks for any information about this ant

raptiformica species, and them swarming on top of a stone was probably them preparing for a raid. Raptiformica are the complete opposite of a pest species and never make their way into houses. They are strictly outdoor ants so i would leave them alone.
