2 probable crematogaster for ID if possible, California

First Crematogaster

1. Phelan, CA.
2. 8-20-2020

 

1. Location of collection: Hwy 138, Phelan.
2. Date of collection: 8-15-2020
3. Habitat of collection: desert scrub 
4. Length : clearly 9mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: dark when seen by the eye, carmel color under magnification.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: pointed gaster, heart shape appearance when viewed by the naked eye
7. Distinguishing behavior: Spine protruding from the rear of the thorax
8. Nest description: none

9. Nuptial flight time and date: was caught during it’s nuptial flight by black light

 

 

Second Crematogaster

1. Phelan, CA.
2. 8-20-2020

2. Date of collection: 8-15-2020
3. Habitat of collection: desert scrub 
4. Length : clearly 10mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: dark when seen by the eye, carmel color under magnification.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: pointed gaster, heart shape appearance when viewed by the naked eye
7. Distinguishing behavior: Spine protruding from the rear of the thorax
8. Nest description: none

9. Nuptial flight time and date: was caught during it’s nuptial flight by black light

 

 

 

The only visible difference I can see is the length. I know that crematogasters are very had to get an exact ID, I am looking more to verify that they are each a different species without waiting until they have workers (assuming that the workers will have another noticeable difference).

I also thought that maybe someone had experience with the crematogasters along HWY 138

I think they are all crematogaster because of the heart shaped gaster

Yup, those be Crematogaster, that is as far as I will even try to go with an Id.

Thank you and Yes, I am quite sure they are crematogasters. I am looking to see if anyone can help with specifics. Although, again I am aware that in many conversations here we have been told how hard it is to give a specific ID on crematogasters. I am not known for offering the best pictures either (hopefully, they have improved).

Yes, to the naked eye they appear quite dark. But when I took a closer picture. So, we'll see what the workers look like. They will be available for sale or trade
