Hey-

I just checked my colony, and a worker was carrying at least two eggs. Yes!

Yay! I’m glad to hear your colony is showing promise. I seem to have some sort of mutant larvae thing... it looks like a normal larvae but I think it has some sort of appendage. If I can get a picture I’ll put it up. If it turns out to be a small larvae stuck to a big one I don’t know if I’ll be relieved or disappointed.

Update- 12/24/2020

Well, this will likely be the last update of the year. My Pogonomyrmex are hibernating at slightly below room temperature, and about a month ago I gave them plenty of chia seeds. The queen was the only one that gathered any, while the workers just watched. I'm not sure if this is because they're nanitics and can't lift the seeds, or if they're just stupid. The mutant larvae I mentioned earlier disappeared, and I'm assuming one of the ants ate it.

I do have something big planned for this journal, but I don't want to say just yet in case it doesn't go as I plan. If all goes well, I'll have a new big update in about a week or so. As always, thanks for reading.

Update 8/1/2021

Well, here's the big news I promised. I bought a 40+ worker colony from Tarheel Ants! At the moment they're moving from their tube into a minihearth, but I'll move them into a fallen fortress or a labyrinth as soon as I can get my hands on one.

The ants arrived looking very healthy and warm, and there were only a few (maybe 5) dead. I'm unable to see the queen besides her head and sometimes her gaster, so I don't know how healthy she is, but I'll edit this update when she moves. Also, I finally got okay photos! I recently upgraded my phone, and the camera is much better. The pics are pretty dark because photography in a minihearth is very difficult, but the pictures will improve when I get them a bigger nest. Most are the new colony moving into their minihearth, but one is from an experiment I did a few weeks back when I tried giving my small colony honey water.

Oh, and for anyone interested, I named the new queen Ruth.

The queen looks healthy! The colony finished moving in, I just had to manually move some stragglers. Luckily these ants are rather large, so it's much easier to catch them than, say, tetramorium.

any pics?

of the queen? Not really, she's tucked away in the back and has a wall of brood in front of her. I'll see if I can get any later.
