Congratulations!

One is a Cyphomyrmex queen(the first one) The other is a native desert Tetramorium sp. Congratulations on some pretty rare ants you found there!

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
Looks like Cyphomhrmex sp. (fungus grower), Queen too.
I third this.
"God made..... all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds (including ants). And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:25 NIV version
Keeping:
Formica cf. pallidefulva, cf. incerta, cf. argentea
Formica cf. aserva, cf. subintegra
Myrmica sp.
Lasius neoniger, brevicornis
Both are species I desperately want. The Cyphomyrmex is wheeleri, the Tetramorium is spinosum.
It was digging a hole though. Probably has no fungus.

I have it in a hydrostone formicarium with caterpillar poop and rose petals. Hopefully they don't rot.

It's the "only" cyphomyrmex in california, very widespread. You can basically assume all cyphos you see are wheels. It is possible that we also have flavidus, but those can be easily distinguished by having rounded head corners, and if you really want to be sure, no teeth on the petiole.
C. flavidus has been collected once in California.
