Hi Guys, a friend of mine had this colony and decided he didn't want them anymore. The 2 queens are very small (almost like a Dark rover or acorn queen) I would try and get a measurement but I put them in a AC hybrid mini nest.

Thank you for your help!!

Yes it does look that way but there are a lot of them. I just showed the corner that has the queens. probably 100 or more workers. The nest is only 4in by 4in and when he gave them to me he had them in a jar. I figured this is definitely an upgrade for them

Looks like good ol' tapinoma sessile. These guys are extremely polygynous and some of the best escape artists around.

Thank you very much Manitobant for the heads up and ID, I Really appreciate it. Well that being said I guess they will outgrow this mini nest pretty quick LOL There definitely  is a lot of workers and brood.

Thanks again

These don’t typically do that great in captivity. They’ll be happy to take over your kitchen, though.

T sessile behavior is highly variable throughout populations, its best not to expect them to conform to the majority and just keep in mind that those inbreeding/highly polygynous behaviors may be possible.

You know how I feel about these. It’s been war since they wrecked my castaneus terrarium. The minute I see them now out comes a bottle cap full of Terro. I don’t play no more.

They seem to have been doing great (lots of brood) but maybe I'm just better off just letting them go. I would hate for them to escape and I have to explain to my wife why we have some crazy inbreed ants running around my house chasing the dog!!  :wacko2:

If you let them go, let them go far from your house if you don’t want them coming back lol.

Unless you're really into this species, I'd save space and resources for more interesting colonies. Tapinoma sessile is a really interesting species, but they're literally everywhere if you ever want to observe them outdoors/ in your kitchen.

Yes, I agree guys. I really just wanted them out of my friends shed and out of the jar he kept therm in (definitely not cool) I will most likely let them go. Its really not worth the risk of them escaping. My wife isn't into the hobby but tolerates it. When ever she sees an ant in the house she gives me a look and asks...., is this one of yours?  :(
