1. Location of collection: Ulster County NY

2. Date of collection: 07Aug2020
3. Habitat of collection: Mostly oak forest
4. Length: 5-5.5mm
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Reddish brown, lots of wrinkles
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 2 petiole nodes, 12 antennae segments and I think a pectinate tibial spur.
7. Anything else distinctive: Feeding on another insect when I found it, so I assume it is semi-claustral
8. Nest description: No nest found, but it was on top of a rotting log.

9. Nuptial flight time and date: Found the queen 07Aug2020 at 1630

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I'm not seeing any stripes.

Nevermind me. I think NickAnter is a better expert than I am. Myrmica is probably it.

Aphaenogaster are fully claustral and much bulkier while this Myrmica is semi-claustral and much slimmer.

Definitely not Aphaenogaster, compare the shape of the petiole in profile.
