I love the look of a wooden formicarium's.  I can't find a list of ants that are suitable for this type of formicarium.  Anyone know where I can find info on that? I know carpenter ants enjoy wooden homes, but they also chew them up don't they?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Adam

Crematogaster love wood and don’t even need it very humid! If at all haha. Although drinking water is necessary of course

I wouldn't trust Crematogaster in wood because they will chew straight through it. The truth of the matter, wood isn't a good material for formicarium, in my opinion. If you keep humid loving species in their, the wood will break down and decompose. If you keep an arboreal species that naturally lives in wood, they may do well in the conditions ideal for that formicarium, but can frequently chew through it.

Aphaenogaster cf. rudis

Tetramorium immigrans

Tapinoma sessile

Formica subsericea

Pheidole sp.

Camponotus nearcticus

You could make an “all in one” type formicarium to solve chewing through it. That way they can’t escape even if they do chew through it.

They will still escape, but an all-in-one is the way to go. Crematogaster. Always. Escape.

I’ve got 2 queens with brood coming and I’ve never had them before so I guess I’m in for it 😂😂

Leptothorax do great in wood formicariums, although you will need a small nest.

Yes, you sure are. I’ve spent all day dealing with a jailbreak.
