I caught 5 P. Subnitidius queens at Black Star canyon trail 7 pm on the day of a heatwave. They are in a mini hearth and already have a batch of eggs. These queens are housed together.

Alright. This colony has about 25 workers and is in a tar heel ants castia. They are currently my favorite colony because they have four queens now and tons of brood.

This colonies population is rising fast. They have 75-100 workers now. There was a huge pile of pupa and larva and they all eclosed. The colony has 3 queens because the others died from unknow reasons. There is about 25-50 larva, 30 pupa, and around 50 eggs and tons more being laid every day.

They like amaranth, poppy, and dandelion. But they like nuts the most. Specifically walnuts. They have a whole chamber for walnuts.

Would love to see some photos!

Ill get those soon

Yea. I know a guy that has kept and observed harvester ants for almost 2 decades. He has taught me a ton about harvester ants. Including them loving walnuts.

I moved this colony into a 5 gallon terrarium with desert sand and they are doing amazing. I can't see anything underground but they took to the terrarium very quickly and have well over 100 workers.

Didn't do to well in production over winter and fall. 150-200 workers now. haven't seen a queen body so I'm assuming they still have 2 or 3. They are loving Drews seed mixture. Mainly the amaranth, poppy,  and Kentucky bluegrass. Hoping for these guys to explode in population over the next couple months because of how much protein they've been taking. Only leaving the exoskeleton on mealworms and crickets.

Probably 200-250 workers now. Growth is still slow which is strange to me but the colony is alive and well.

This colony is doing great. I fed them some seeds about a week ago, and about 100 workers started collecting them. So I have to assume this colony is 300+ workers. I think they still have 3 queens but i know there is a lot of egg production due to how hungry they've been.
