They have heating cables for sale on their website, and a video with heat lamps pointed on them, but nothing physically built into it to adapt any form of heating.

Anyone have this formicarium? How have you applied your warmth?

I have the XL Mini Hearth, I suggest heating part of it with a heating cable on the opposite side of the water tower to make a heat gradient.

How do you have your cable arranged, coiled up , or unwound and run up against the side? how is it secured?

I have a plastic shelving unit that will eventually be used to house my ants indoors, so I will obviously want the cable on something that won't melt.

The most common mistake I see kids and buyers make over the years is overheating their colonies, especially if the nest is small. If you have a mini hearth or mini hearth XL and your ambient room temp is generally cool, all you need is a 15w heating cable on the sides. It doesn't even need to touch. The temperature gradient inside the nest is extremely important, if you place the heating cable UNDER the nest or have a larger heating element, you are essentially slowly cooking your ants inside that hearth.

Here is how I heat mine. Ambient room temp ranges from 65 to 70s.

Sweet, so I just need 15 more Mini Hearths to make an entire cable worth it.

Seriously, thank you for the pic.

I guess I just gotta figure out what to do with the other 10' of the cable.

Pretty much nothing. Just keep it away from nests or flames. They don't come any shorter.
