Can someone sell me some meal worms for like $5, i'm looking for like 10 for each dollar.

You can buy them at any pet store for cheaper than that.  Also Rainbow Mealworms sells 500 mealworms for $4 plus shipping.

Most people use oats, but i don't see why using that wouldn't work. You need to add a carrot in there too for moisture.

Or if you have a liquid feeder, use it instead. Carrots rot eventually. Liquid feeders will not.

Here's how you catch fruit flies:

 

ON a hot day, leave a jar with a banana peel in the sun. There should be plastic wrap rubber banded to the top, and the wrap should have tiny holes to let the flies in. They are too stupid to get out.


Species I keep:

 

1 Lasius cf. Neoniger 30 workers

1 Camponotus sp. 15 workers

20 Tetramorium SpE 30 workers

1 T. Sessile 200 workers

In this link under tutorials, is a thread called culturing various feeder insects.  That may help you with several other options for culturing mealworms and flightless fruit flies.

Mealworms are easily located, usually in any pet store.  For flightless fruit flies, search for a local reptile or frog forum.  There always seems to be one or two willing to give away an older culture, or sell a fresh one.

@greg it's very far away, the nearest one takes like 29 minutes drive and my oarents don't want to, so i black mailed a friend into buying and trading

can i use byformica liquid feeders? They love grape and finish them really fast

how long does it take for mealworm pupae to enclose?

also, what do i need to feed the beetles?

Depends on temperature.  Mine are in a cool location and take 4-6 weeks.

 

My setup just has bran and oats.  If they are hungry, they nibble on that.  They do appreciate veggies though as they are high in moisture.

It's better to feed the worms or the pupae, because the beetles are less nutricious

i meant so that the beetles would live long enough to do leave offspring, got my first beetle! :)

can i put in granola for them? the one with out flavors
