I've seen queens out and about eating honey and dog food. They're highly nomadic, I've seen them nest in all sorts of things, like pvc pipes, under cardboard, in gravel, etc.

100000000000000 dollars. Remind me why you want them so much? Because they don’t have nuptial flights? No ant will have a nuptial flight in a formicarium unless you are an expert antkeeper

They don’t have nuptial flights so I can’t catch any queens, and I can’t seem to find any nests, only workers. I want them to feed my blind snake and also just cause they are pretty cool in my opinion

Understandable... their nests are small and hidden under things. Maybe a loose rock or object and you should find one

Argentines don't do that well in capacity in my opinion.

That’s true. I hear that a lot from people. When I was just starting antkeeping I had a colony thinking they were lasius niger , I raised them till they were at ten thousand. Then once I found out how evil they are, I froze them

Do you mean americanus or neoniger?
If they were niger, h o w could you freeze a rare species to CA.

Nope... I meant lasius Niger. I was just starting. Maybe first few weeks

Honestly idek why I want them. I’ve tried flipping rocks, to no avail. If anyone really could ship me a colony I would pay shipping and some for the colony (but not too much)

They are invasive, kill native ants, and frankly annoying and boring. Not judging, but their are soooo many cooler ants in CA.

Yep, I know, but you can combine wild ants with the colony and I would like to keep a huge supercolony of them

And then they will escape and murder any ant or easy prey they can find

I mean, they won’t always escape. Ant Invasion or AntsAustralia keeps them (or some other big youtube ant keeper)

There must be at least 10 million plus Argentine workers down here. They rule the area. They terrorize insects. They swarm the seed-harvesters. With that being said, ants are ants and it is hard to discriminate one from the rest, like people do with pitbulls with other dogs.

 

Interesting observation:

• Queens do not wander off their ant trail.
• There are multiple trails, and the trails are neat organized lines.
• Trails can range over desert sand to trees, and they go all the way to the top of the tree.
• The seed-harvesters finish their foraging by around 8 p.m. when dusk hits. Most of the Argentine workers begin working from dusk. There is a slight overlap in foraging time between the two, in which a war takes place. The Argentine ants usually outnumber a seed-harvester ant by 10:1, attacking from all sides. Sometimes, the seed-harvester ants retreat with an Argentine worker still clinging to them. I also see seed-harvester ants bringing back either their dead or injured comrade back home. As soon as dusk hits, the seed-harvesters cease foraging and stick to nest clean up, in which they stay close to the nest entrance above surface, either guarding the nest entrance, managing the clean up operation, or both.
• JenC may be right about Argentine ants in captivity not doing well. They don't seem to crank out eggs fast like Solenopsis xyloni queens do. I will see over time how well they do.

This is more than half a year later. But are you still interested. I am looking to sell a colony of Argentine ants, that have 2 queens, and 25ish workers.

Linepithema do have flights And why does that matter to you? If I remember every single ant has nuptials.
